Lecture on Native Bees

Insect biologist Dave Gordon will introduce his audience to the diversity and natural history of bees in general during a talk slated for Saturday, Feb. 9, 1 p.m. at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center (about three miles south of Yachats).  Gordon will emphasize the species native to North America (honey bees were introduced to the New World). Displays of pinned specimens, posters, short movie clips, and slide presentations will illustrate the diversity of species collected from farms, orchards, state parks, coastal sand dunes, and residential neighborhoods in California, Oregon, Kentucky, Missouri, and Indiana.

The event is free, but a Northwest Forest Pass, Oregon Coast Passport, federal recreation pass, or $5 day-use fee is required within the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and at some trailheads and day use sites.
