Marbled Murrelet Talk

Learn about Oregon's Marbled Murrelets with naturalist Lindsay Adrean, an Oregon State University Faculty Research Assistant, on Thursday, Feb. 21, starting at 7 p.m. The talk will be located at the OSU Extension Lincoln County headquarters (1211 S.E. Bay Blvd., Newport). This event is sponsored by the Yaquina Birders and Naturalists, and is free and open to the public. 

The mission of the Oregon Marbled Murrelet Project, for which Adrean is the lead research assistant, is to provide new scientific information that advances our understanding of breeding requirements of the Oregon population of Marbled Murrelets, a threatened seabird that feeds in the ocean but builds nests in old-growth forests as much as 50 miles inland.  In 2017 and 2018, the project tracked radio-tagged Marbled Murrelets and documented their at-sea and inland movements. Adrean will introduce the project and review the preliminary results of these first two field seasons, which included documentation of a previously unknown nest predator and use of an unexpected tree species for nesting.
