Rise Above Plastics Day
Oregon Shores is joining the Surfrider Foundation and other conservation groups in sponsoring a Rise Above Plastics Day at the Oregon State Capitol (900 Court St., N.E. in Salem) on Thursday, March 14. Activities run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here to register.
The event will be an opportunity to learn more about the global plastic pollution problem, take the “Rise above Plastics Pledge” to reduce single-use plastics, and meet with legislator to ask them to take the pledge as well.
From 10 a.m. through 2 p.m., students from around the state will tour plastic education stations (including CoastWatch’s table, staffed by CoastWatch Volunteer Coordinator Fawn Custer), and meet with their state legislators. Beginning at 2 p.m., the public and participating anti-plastics activists will tour the educational displays and then meet with legislators.

This day at the State Capitol is the first step in a Rise above Plastics project in which Oregon Shores is participating, led by Surfrider and with funding from the NOAA Marine Debris Program. More information about the project will be released soon.
