A training session for this year’s citizen science survey of Oregon’s Black Oystercatcher population will take place on Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m.-noon, at Cannon Beach City Hall (163 E. Gower St.).  Those attending will learn about these elusive inhabitants of our rocky shores, and gain instruction in how to contribute to knowledge about the birds’ reproductive success.  Details will be provided about this year’s population survey, and subsequent nest surveys over the course of the spring and summer.  There is no charge for attending the training session.

For more on how the survey works, go here.  If planning to attend, or if unable to attend but interested in participating, RSVP to Joe Liebezeit, Avian Conservation Manager for the Audubon Society of Portland, 971-222-6121, jliebezeit@audubonportland.org. Liebezeit will be leading the training at this event.

Sponsors for the event are the Audubon Society of Portland, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Haystack Rock Awareness Program, and Friends of Cape Falcon Marine Reserve.
