A dual event is planned at Cape Perpetua for Thursday, May 30. The first half, an educational talk on the land-sea connection, takes place at the stone shelter atop Cape Perpetua (officially the Cape Perpetua Day Use Area), beginning at 11:00 a.m. The speaker will be Paul Engelmeyer of Portland Audubon, a long-time leader in citizen science and conservation advocacy in the Cape Perpetua area.
DIRECTIONS: Turn east on the Day Use Area + Campground road (just north of the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center turn, at 2400 Hwy 101, Yachats, OR). Pass the campground and continue up the road to the top. At the top you will reach a parking lot where you can park. Once parked, you can head to the trail where you will find the scenic overlook.
Between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., have lunch and make your way south to Stonefield Beach State Park (95330 US-101, Florence), about four miles south of Cape Perpetua.
Then, from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., participate in a beach cleanup at Stonefield Beach. Be sure to dress for the weather, and if possible bring a bucket.
