Hearing on Mining Permit
The Curry County Planning Commission will hold a hearing on a permit application for a mining project that could threaten the Pistol River at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 25, in the Curry County Annex Office Building, lower level (94235 Moore St.). The “Adams” proposal (AD-1907 Conditional Use Permit for Aggregate Mining and Processing on Pistol River) seeks to develop a sand and gravel mine on the banks of the Pistol River near its mouth. Anything that went wrong would thus threaten the entire river, a world-renowned fishing stream and important salmon habitat. Oregon Shores has submitted comments strongly opposing this proposal.
New testimony will not be taken at the hearing. But concerned local citizens are urging opponents to attend as a show of strength, to get the attention of the commissioners.
