Meeting on Coping with Climate Change

Local citizens concerned about the coming effects of climate change have organized a meeting to discuss how to mitigate such changes in Waldport.  The event, free and open to all, will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 7-9 p.m., at the Waldport Community Center (265 N.W. Hemlock), in the multi-purpose room. This is one of a series of such meetings that are being organized in Lincoln County by 350.org in a public/private partnership with the county.  For more on this partnership, go here.

This is intended as an information-gathering session, at which participants will outline their concerns and discuss ideas for a city plan for addressing climate change (a particular threat in Waldport, where the downtown area is a relatively few feet above sea level).  The meeting will be moderated by Bill Kucha, head of the Lincoln County 350.org chapter.

The agenda will include discussions of planning, sustainability, communications, and infrastructure, among other topics.  City officials, port commissioners, and other political leaders have been invited.  As local organizer Joanne Cvar notes, “This is probably more than we can cover in two hours, especially if folks in the audience want to talk about other urgent issues. We will need more meetings to work out a plan for the city (and how to pay for such a plan).”
