Hearing on Elliott State Forest
Conservationists from throughout the state rallied a couple of years ago to prevent sale of the Elliott State Forest for logging. The public now has a say in the Elliott’s future. A public meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24, in Portland provides an opportunity to speak up for a conservationist view of the Elliott’s future.
The meeting, hosted by the Oregon Department of State Lands, takes place 5:30-7 p.m. at Oregon State University’s Portland Center, Classroom 2947, in the Meier & Frank Building (555 S.W. Morrison St.). Information will be provided and questions answered concerning OSU’s proposal to manage the Elliott as a research forest. Conservationists, including Oregon Shores, will be advocating for preserving the oldest trees, protecting salmon habitat, and maintaining public recreational access.
