Jordan Cove Eelgrass Hearing
In pursuit of its proposal to develop an LNG (liquefied natural gas) export terminal on Coos Bay’s North Spit, the Jordan Cove Energy Project is requesting approval of an Estuarine Permit #187-19-000035-PLNG to authorize development of an “Eelgrass Mitigation Site” to offset potential impacts to eelgrass habitat in the Coos Bay estuary from the construction and operation of the LNG facility. The identified “Eelgrass Mitigation Site” is located in an area of City of Coos Bay jurisdiction area. Consequently, city’s planning commission will consider approval of the proposed mitigation site at a special hearing on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 6 p.m. at the Coos Bay City Hall (500 Central).
The proposed project components include, re-contouring an existing unvegetated sandbar to create an area of optimal eelgrass habitat, and then transplanting eelgrass from a nearby “Donor Site” into the migration area. The following is a link to #187-19-000035-PLNG.
