Tidepool Learning Opportunity
Both Jesse Jones, our CoastWatch volunteer coordinator, and Fawn Custer, our citizen science trainer, will be speaking to the Oregon Coast Learning Institute on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Salishan Resort (7760 U.S. Hwy 101) in Gleneden Beach. Their joint subject: “Tidepool Ecology and Ways You Can Help.”
Fawn will share her knowledge about the plants and animals of the Oregon’s coast’s rocky intertidal zone, demonstrating with many specimens. Jesse will discuss CoastWatch monitoring of rocky shore areas and citizen science opportunities, including the King Tides Project.
The Oregon Coast Learning Institute is a continuous learning organization for retired and semi-retired people. It conducts a 12-week “winter term.” Non-members can attend a session at the invitation of a member. Joyce Sherman of OCLI has graciously offered to invite interested CoastWatch volunteers as her guests. Contact her at (541) 614-1252, (503) 319-5325 (cell), or joycesherman@charter.net.
