The annual volunteer monitoring project that monitors Western Snowy Plover nesting on the north coast, the Snowy Plover Patrol, has been delayed due to the coronavirus, and physical training sessions aren’t currently possible.  However, the project’s primary sponsors, Portland Audubon and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, are preparing the project for launch whenever pandemic precautions are lifted by holding a series of training webinars online.  There are four modules, each of which is offered on two occasions.  These webinars are free—you can take any of them twice is you so desire.

The second offering of Module 1 takes place on Saturday, April 25, 10-11 a.m.  (Note that Module 2 takes place at 11:30 on the same day.  Module 1 is also offered on April 17—see separate listing.)

The subject for Module 1 is “What Is a Plover, Anyway?”  It covers Snowy Plover Identification, Similar Species, Life History, Habitat, Behavior, Threats, and Decline.

The online training will take place over Zoom. To register, contact Frances Buchanan, asopcoastalbirds@gmail.com.  You will be sent an invitation and instructions.
