The American Cetacean Society, Oregon Chapter, is sponsoring a presentation by veterinarian Stephanie Norman on zoonotic diseases originating among marine organisms.  The free public event takes place online on Saturday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m.

Dr. Norman, DVM, PhD, is a wildlife veterinarian and epidemiologist, involved in the aquatic animal health field, spanning invertebrates to top-level predators. Her specific areas of clinical and field research interest include understanding and interpreting various aspects of ocean health, including pathogen transmission in the aquatic environment, as well as those of concern to human health. The basis of her research and clinical efforts is to provide knowledge needed to help mitigate human impact on aquatic species and raise awareness of ocean health and the connection to human health.

She will give a brief overview of some of the more significant zoonotic (transmission from animals to humans) diseases originating from marine organisms of several taxa: shellfish, fish and marine mammals, as well as a brief overview of the concepts of One Health and epidemiology and how they come into play with zoonotic diseases.

The free presentation will be held via Zoom. RSVP to receive the link and login information:
