The Friends of Haystack Rock are conducting their annual lecture series via Facebook this winter.  All lectures, free and open to the public, begin at 7 p.m. and are offered via Facebook Live @Friends of Haystack Rock.

First up is Janet Essley speaking on “Tidal Flats, Victorian Prudes, and Going to the Moon:  What Can We Learn from Sandpipers?”

Essley is a painter, muralist and art instructor whose work is informed by her biological research and collaborates with biologists to explore the lives or species and their environmental threats.  The work resulted in her book Red Knots: A Cultural Cartography of a Migratory Bird’s Annual Journey. (This talk was to have taken place in the spring, in person, but had to be cancelled in the early days of the coronavirus shutdown.)
